2022 Spotlight Personal Statement
My name is Makenzie Hughes, I'm a Senior at Akron Westfield Community School in Akron, IA. I am a starting point guard and shooting guard for the varsity basketball team. I have been playing basketball since 1st grade and I love the sport. On my downtime I practice on my own, strength train and I work with a past AAU coach privately. I'm in my 6th year of participating in an AAU league. I always work hard and am constantly looking for feedback on how to do better. It's my dream to play ball in college. I'm a not just a team player I also encourage teammates when they are having an off game and always stay positive even if it is a rough game. I believe what makes me stand out is that I have always been a hard worker and I was raised that if I want something I need to work for it and not expect it to just happen. Hard work and dedication are what I know will get me to where I want to be.

- During the months of March and August I participate in 4 weeks of speed and agility training with a personal coach. This has assisted me in improving my vertical jump by 6 inches, horizontal jump by 10 inches in just 8 weeks of training between those 2 months.
