I have been very blessed to have the best coaches imaginable, my entire life. They influenced me to truly believe in myself and my ability. They told me I could do it (whatever it was) as long as I believed in myself, and even when I felt that I couldn’t do the impossible, I trusted my coaches, and they were right, if I wanted to do something I could do it. I can do anything if I set my mind to it.
My athletic career took me down many paths before I fell in love with basketball. I have been a tumbler, a gymnast, a half marathoner, a cross country runner, a softball player, a long jumper, and a high school track sprinter, but basketball is where my heart lies. If it weren’t for my coaches I would not be who I am today.
My family is full of good athletes; running is just in our genes. I have a unique ability to both sprint and run long distance, and basketball allows me do both. I can sprint up and down the court and not need a break, which helps my teams out at both high school games and AAU tournaments.
In everyday life I am a very quiet person, but on both the basketball court and bench, I am very vocal, I like that I am that way both on and off the floor of any game, as I want to I help my teams whether I am playing or on the bench.
This year in high school I have set a goal to keep my grades as close to a 4.0 as possible. I hope while in college I will discover an area that I have as much passion about as I do basketball and make that my career.
While playing basketball I have had to mentally prepare myself for many things, big games, games we were supposed to win, games we were supposed to lose, games where we faced my AAU teammates at a different high school. I feel I’ve developed mental toughness and believe my many awesome coaches are to thank for that. I’ve work hard to improve every day and I don’t mind getting yelled at or corrected. I have had several coaches tell me that if I’m not yelling at you I’m not paying attention to you and that is when you should worry, and I take that with me to every practice and every game. This allows me to accept criticism and not take it personally.
