Since I was a young girl I loved sports! I would hang out in the gym while my mom coached high school volleyball or on the baseball field where my dad coached varsity baseball. I couldn't wait until I was old enough to play on these teams where the players looked so awesome. My earliest memory of playing on a basketball team was in third grade. I was on the "Rising Star" team coached by my mom and another dad. I was a whole foot taller than most of the other players. I loved playing this fast pace game and running up and down the court. As I got older and the girls caught up to me on height, I learned I had to develop a 3-point shot. I was in the gym a lot, shooting with my older sister, Kara. Kara was a senior when I was a freshman. I was so happy when I made the varsity team my freshman year so we could play together. It was through this year that I learned what it takes to compete in varsity sports. Our coach was a new, young coach and he liked to work us hard. I looked up to the seniors and wanted to become a leader and competitive player. I am one of those players that if coach says he's opening up the gym, I'm going to be there. I'll try to get my teammates to be there too. I know its time in the gym that's going to make myself and the team better.
My sophomore year, we won the District Title. This was the first time since the early 1990's that our team had won it. It was an amazing experience to score 31 points in the game leading up to the final game. The energy of the crowd and my team was incredible. I will never forget accepting the medal and trophy we had worked so hard to get. When you come from a small town, these events get everyone out to support. It was great to be part of something that brought pride to the community. I will continue to work hard and do what I can to achieve the goals the team has set. I am looking forward to playing basketball at the collegiate level to see what new experiences and challenges are ahead. I'm ready to be in the gym, coach!
