My name is Maddie Schuur, and I’m a junior at Zeeland East High School. I have grown up playing the game of basketball and I have continued to learn more and work hard in this sport. Having my dad as a coach at the high school has allowed me to watch and learn from multiple levels of the game. The past two seasons I have had the opportunity to play and start with my school’s varsity basketball team, and I have learned a lot of skills to improve my game. Attending multiple skills camps has helped me grow into a better and more reliable leader, teammate, and player. These camps have also helped me understand the hard work and mental toughness needed to achieve my goals. Growing up at Ridge Point Community Church with my family and going to youth group and on mission trips I have grown a strong foundation in Christ. I have worked hard to put my academics first and maintained a 4.0 GPA during my freshman and sophomore school years. I haven’t fully decided on my future career yet, but talking with professionals involved in being a dietitian, or being involved in exercise science is something I’ve recently been interested in. I’m very excited to be challenged throughout this season, and learn more about myself and the game. My hard work will continue as I strive to reach my goal of playing college basketball.
