My name is Amanda Orasi, I am a student and an athlete. The reason I say it that way is because I am serious about both. I am proud to be on the National Honor Socity and have a 4.1 GPA, I am proud that I was a starter on the Varsity womens basketball team. The reason that I am proud of both of these is because I have worked hard to achieve them. I started playing basketball in 8th grade when coach Espinosa asked me to tryout. I did and really liked being part of a team and working with others on a common goal. Unfortunately, my first year I broke my wrist and even though I wanted to play the school would not allow me to continue to play. My 9th grade year, I tried out again and made the team and again, I had a freak accident in practice and broke my finger and played all season with a broken fingert. The first two years were very difficult, I was learning the game and I couldn’t play. This just motivated me to do more and get better. Then Covid hit, this was a tough year for me cause I lost a full season, I was getting better and better now not being able to play my sophomore year was not what I wanted. Fast forward to my junior year, tryouts came around, new coaches for both JV and Varsity so I had to prove myself. Our new coaches both play college basketball so it was a totally different level and expectations. I didn’t have the best tryouts but that happens so I was told I made the JV team. I unlike a few of my former team mates decided to accept the JV team assignment and work hard. I went to pratice everyday worked hard, 1st game of the season I was asked to play both JV and Varsity. After that game I was moved up to Varsity and started a majority of the games. I know that I will do what it takes to play at the next level and continue to focus on my academics. The most import thing that I have learned from my parents is to be coachable, work hard and never give up.
