Hi, my names Emily Moulton and I’m the class of 2021 at Mascoma Valley Regional High School. Basketball is my passion and while I do play field hockey and softball as well, I’ve always had in my mind that one day I would be able to play basketball at a collegiate level.
I learned in my freshmen year of high school what hard work and determination really does for someone. I had had surgery a month or so before the season started which caused me to lose practice and game time that I believe everyone needs to be successful. I also had another surgery a month before my junior year. It was the same injury but the fact I still wasn’t fixed killed my spirit when I could no longer play field hockey and focus on ball in the summer. But due to my drive and passion for the sport, I came back stronger than ever after pushing myself to do so. The only reason I was able to play my freshmen season at all was because of the determination I had to be play at my very best again and to join the varsity team. My junior year wasn’t as difficult to get accustomed to the way I had to play in order to protect my hand because I had been doing it for three years now. The ongoing injury didn’t stop me from being a varsity starter tho. My love for the game allowed me to out play the majority of the competition even with the major setbacks.
I pushed myself every day, before, during, and after my recovery. For this reason I’ve always been the “go-to” girl on the court. Whether it was for knowing a play, rough scoring situations, or if the team just needed someone to fill any position on the floor. I know that I will continue to work hard and push myself to gain my full potential.
I currently play for a school with students that, on an average, don’t have the drive and passion I do. Which can be very frustrating, but I’ve learned to power through it all and take on the responsibility of being a team leader. I have a high basketball IQ and even bigger passion for the game itself. I believe that my shot form, while it may not be up to date with pro standards, that it’s a pretty good form and that on top of that my ball handling is also right up there. I’m a versatile player who has learned the reigns of every position. I looked forward to the challenges that come my way in this process.
Sincerely,
Emily Moulton
