My name is Mia Walsh and I am a Sophomore Class of 2023 and I attend Saddle River Day school. Basketball is very important to me because it has taught me life lessons along with things I learned about myself. For example, leadership, commitment, discipline, and teamwork. I have learned that mental toughness is just as important as physical toughness; and if you want something you have to really work for it. I am strongly motivated when and comes to basketball, however, academics always comes first. I am a student athlete who completely understands that academics is a top priority. I am a strong scorer along with distributing the ball to give my teammates open opportunities. Each day I push myself, and challenge myself, in addition to holding my teammates accountable and learning from the mistakes. There is much more for me to learn, and many more corners to turn, but I am not afraid to attack the future, and take my talents to the collegiate level.
To know a little bit more about me, I took this life changing trip twice in 2017 and 2018 to Bolivia over the summer. For 2 weeks I volunteered at a orphanage helping them build more houses, paint rooms, work on the dairy farm and more. My favorite part was playing with the kids and having fun. This trip changed my perspective on everything and showed me that it is possible to make a small impact in the world; and that there are many opportunities to do that. It showed me to be thankful for what I have and not take it for granted. I also learned more about my self and reflected on what a I am lucky to have.
