Playing sports in college has always been a goal of mine ever since I picked up a basketball and playing Pee Wees in 3rd grade. I was inspired to push myself and get better through my middle school years by watching high school athletes. Then, as I have played varsity and started since eighth grade, my goal of playing college basketball has grown indefinitely. I have coaches that have pushed me to want to get better every practice and who have also motivated me to challenge myself and think of new strategies in every game. The love I have for this game is unexplainable. The drive that I have to make myself better and push myself to accomplish my goals is what I work to improve in order to reach my goal of playing college basketball.
At a collegiate level, my goals are to succeed academically and athletically. I aspire to maintain good grades and to stay on top of my work even on a busy schedule. Athletically, I am willing and eager to wake up early for gym workouts or stay out late for practice, and still get the work I need done for my classes. To be on a college team means you need to have good leadership skills, good listening skills, and good teamwork and communication skills. Growing up in a small town, I was taught all four of these things. I have been pushed to be the leader on the team ever since I was in eighth grade and was taught how to help my teammates and lead them, instead of criticizing and degrading them. I was also taught how to listen to them and help them with their questions about an offense, defense, or special play drawn up last second. My coaches have shown me what qualities a leader must possess in order to have a successful team. With these qualities I have been taught, also brought teamwork and communication skills. I was taught how good teamwork and communication, with all five players, wins games. I was also shown how poor teamwork and communication loses games. This inspired me to push myself to help create good teamwork and communication amongst my team at all times.
I am a competitive person, and basketball emphasizes that even more. I love the feeling you get when you win something. However, I love the feeling of winning something with a team through hardwork, dedication, and communication even more.
Something that makes me different from other athletes is my 100% dedication. I always push myself to keep a good attitude and to help my teammates in any way I can. I strive to be a leader and to listen to my coach with whatever he/she asks of me. Even when asked to step outside of my comfort zone, my willingness and eagerness to get better is always there. I aspire to be the best athlete I can possibly be, and to take everything I am taught from my coach and use it. Academically, I am just as eager as I am on the court. My goal of being the best I can be on the court is the same in the classroom. I want to have the best grades I can possibly have and succeed through 100% dedication. Failure is not an option for me because I see myself either succeeding or learning to make myself succeed.
