Playing sports have always been a part of my life since I first asked my parents to sign me up to play tee ball at age 5. From that early age I have played tee ball, baseball, travel softball and basketball. After the two years I pitched for baseball, I came to realize the importance of playing sports in my life. Although I have played a lot of different sports and on a variety of levels of teams, the love of playing basketball is something I have always been drawn back to. To me, basketball is not just a sport, it’s a way for me to be myself and to push my limits, and know that there is nothing I can’t do.
During my middle school years, my softball coaches praised my efforts in calling out the plays and motivating the team on the field. I saw then that a positive attitude on the field could inspire my team to do its best. Now on the basketball court, before every game, I huddle up with my team and to pump up them with words of encouragement, “No negativity, make good decisions and always, no matter what, keep your head held high.” All of my teammates tell me that they can always hear me calling out plays and encouraging my teammates while I’m on the court throughout each game to build team unity. But a positive attitude is only part of what it takes to succeed. I have always loved to work hard physically and learn to improve myself. Throughout the 4 years that I played travel softball, my nickname was “Rocket Arm”, because I could throw the ball from center field to home base. I know that my strength is a gift which I want to develop to take me further. My personality is one that I strive to always improve my game, both physically and mentally. Off the court, I push myself in my daily workouts and consciously maintain a healthy lifestyle. After each game, I take time to review the highs and lows of my performance and strive to make the next game better than the last. I desire to take my talents and develop them more to always be an asset to the team. To be an excellent team player and athlete, has always come naturally to me.
