I attend Hathaway Brown High School (HB), which has a rigorous academic curriculum. Every day I look forward to taking on the academic challenges presented at HB. I started attending HB in the 5th grade. I love the school, teachers and my fellow students. HB has a great tradition of academic and athletic excellence, and I am determined to do my part to continue that tradition both academically and on the basketball court. The perfect college for me is one that has an excellent academic tradition and a women's basketball team that competes for championships.
I started playing basketball in the third grade and quickly developed a passion for the game. My goal is to play basketball at a top academic school. I have no doubt that my work ethic, determination and moral compass will allow me to achieve my goals. At the age of 11, I became a black belt in Taekwondo. The process of becoming a black belt taught me the importance of focused training and not just training for the sake of training. I learned to train with purpose and a goal in mind. I applied what I learned from my Taekwondo training to my basketball training, which has taken me from coming off the bench during my first year in AAU (5th grade) to a starting point guard in my second year of AAU ball and the starting point guard for my high school's varsity team as a freshman.
While basketball is my first love, I also compete in Ninja Warrior competitions throughout Ohio and the United States. Ninja Warrior training has increased my strength, agility and balance. If you are curious about the Ninja Warrior training and competitions, check out my instagram @giap2024 for some videos of me training and competing. Currently, when I am not playing in a basketball game or in a Ninja Warrior competition, I am usually in basketball skill training, Ninja Warrior training or in the weight room. I strength train 5-6 days per week.
Often times I help my basketball and Ninja Warrior trainers teach younger children. I thoroughly enjoy training the younger kids. Training the younger children has been a valuable experience in helping me develop my leadership skills. To me, being a great leader is about setting an example.
