For me, there was never a question about whether or not I wanted to play basketball at the college level. To say basketball is in my blood would be an understatement. Two of my great grand fathers were coaches, my grandfather on my dad's side was a coach, and my older brother is a coach. Needless to say, I have been involved in and around this great game since I can remember.
I started playing basketball when I was 6 years old and have been playing competitively since. I have started every game since I was a freshman in high school while being among the team leaders every year in both scoring and rebounding. This year I am leading the team in scoring, free throw percentage, and 2nd on the team in rebounding. I have also been playing with an AAU travel team for the last 3 years. My natural position is shooting guard or small forward but I also am called on frequently to handle the ball and often even to run the point guard position. I feel I have very good size at 5'9" and also the versatility to play on the perimeter or around the basket. I have improved my shooting every year since my freshman year and am shooting the 3 point shot at a higher percentage this year than ever before. I play defense with as much intensity as I play offense and feel like I can guard many positions. I might not always be the most talented player on the court, but I take pride in always being the player with the most effort. I feel like I would be a great addition to any team because of my versatility, my tenacity, and most of all because I still love playing basketball just as much as I did when I was 6 years old.
As much as I want to play basketball in college, I understand that academics is the ultimate goal as I prepare myself for adulthood. As sad as it makes me, I know that whatever level I reach playing that it will one day come to an end and I fully intend to be prepared for that day. My passion (besides basketball) is to become a financial lawyer. I feel this field fits well with my skill set and I very much look forward to helping others in reaching their goals. I am doing my part to prepare myself as I currently have held a 4.0 GPA all through school while taking honors classes in every subject where they are available. My goal is to be my class Valedictorian and remain rated at the top of my class academically.
As I look back over my short life, I have had many dreams and set many goals for myself. But the one dream that is just as strong today as it was when I was still a little girl is to play basketball at the highest level that my effort and my talents will allow me to reach. My goals have been centered around that dream for several years now, and I look forward to making a college team better with my passion and love for the game.
