My name is Asiya Salim. Basketball has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started off my first basketball program in the 1st grade and I haven’t stopped playing since. Dedication to basketball comes quite natural to me and I push myself to practice on my own time as much as possible. My passion with this game has caused it to grow to be a part of me. I would feel incomplete if I had to give it up, which is why I would like to continue this journey in college.
Setting personal and mental goals for myself is one way I motivate myself to be the best version of myself that I can be. One of my many athletic or academic goals is to maintain my 4.0 GPA for the rest of my high school career. I have not yet chosen a college major, but I do know that I would like to go into engineering. Math and science have never failed to fascinate me. Therefore, academics are extremely important to me as well.
Even though I only stand at 5’4” tall at the moment, my ball handling is where I thrive. So, things like being triple teamed haven’t been much of a problem in the past. However, I will never quit working as hard as I possibly can, because at this point, basketball is my addiction. I am not the type to unnecessarily show off and play as a selfish point guard. I believe that a one man team is the kind that doesn’t go places, and winning is my first priority. However, when the need be, I am never afraid to kick it into high gear and use my many different abilities to score a ton. Something that definitely sets me apart from others, is that I am very mentally tough and I have control over my emotions. When my coach needs a calm and collected player in a tight situation, I can always be counted on to keep a level head, never cry, and never complain. I also always have a close relationship with every one of my teammates, as I am super easy to get along with. As a three-sport athlete and a multiple-time team captain, I know that I have what it takes to be a leader on your team!
