Hello,
When I was in 6th grade, I really wanted to go to Stanford so I asked my parents what it would take to get me there. They said "a lot of hard work w/ extra hours in the class room and on the court." For the following years I did just that! I played on two (sometimes 3 teams) at a time. I enrolled in as many AP and Honor classes as my school offered. I stayed after (or came before) practice to shoot or lift weights. I'll tell you what I learned most....HARD WORK PAYS OFF! Right now, I'm a junior with a 4.0 GPA, top of my class in a very competitive private school, thriving in multiple AP/Honor classes and that's just my academics. In the last two basketball games I played, I scored 40 pts, 22 rebounds, and 16 block shots.
My parents have also taught me the importance of family and faith. It was at my little church that I fell in love with working with little children, hence my focus on Elementary Ed in College. I spend every summer working at our VBS (Vacation Bible School) program that reaches out to all the children in the neighborhood. I love watching their faces when I play duck, duck goose, sing Bible songs, or play my flute for them (I must look like a giant!) During school, I always add an elementary aid class to help with children 10 and under.
Since 6th grade, I've come to discover how many wonderful colleges, like Stanford, are available to me. What I can tell you is this, I will work incredibly hard on and off the court for what ever College/University chooses me. I'm very competitive by nature and truly want to give my teammates, coaches, and teachers 100% of my time, ability, and heart!
Sincerely,
Sydney
