Hello,
My name is Alyssa Johnson, I am a current student at Bradford Area High School, I have been enrolled in the Bradford Area District for over 13 years. When I was younger my father was never present all I had was my mom to support me through every up and down. If it wasn't for my mom I wouldn't be where I am at today. I started playing sports when I was younger to fill the void of my fathers absence. Sports guided me through every mental block that seemed impossible to get out of. During my Freshman year I struggled with sports, school, and even with my mental health. Sports my freshman year wasn't really what I had in mind or imaged of how it would've been. My coaches never had faith in me, neither did my teammates, and as a freshman that's a tough load to carry. I lost all confidence in myself and started not taking care of myself at home and in school. I struggled keeping my grades to a high standard and even got myself into some trouble. I felt like a complete failure. When Sophomore year came around it was the exact same just slightly different. My grades got slightly better and I got myself out of trouble, that's when the progression of me working on myself really took a turn. But still the confidence still wasn't at the highest peak. My Junior year things started to take a turn I started really focusing on myself, getting back on track was key for me. I really focused on my grades and the person I was becoming in school and out. I was completely out of trouble and my grades were higher than before, junior year is when I started looking into playing college ball. I’ve left emails, I’ve called multiple schools waiting for someone to take the chance on me. Nothing yet. I started working hard and putting more effort into things hoping someone would give me the chance to be something great. Basketball has taught me more to life than anything. Senior year came around and like everyone said high school goes by fast, well they were right it truly does, and although I still don't have an offer I will never give up. I believe everyone fails and those who get up will succeed in life. I'm currently maintaining a 3.5 GPA and although that isn't the greatest it is proof that progress really does show. I now have confidence in everything I do and my faith is always carried with me. I am a leader on and off the court. I am proof that people can struggle and carry heavy loads and not fall down. I am still waiting on that one chance, that one opportunity to do something special. All it takes is having faith in yourself and confidence and you can do anything you put your mind to. I am a set example of anything is possible. I will continue to try and be the greatest version of myself to my surroundings and to those who have been through what I've been through. I will not give up.
