This year has taught us all many life lessons. What we love has been taken from us due to a global pandemic, but has provided opportunities that we have never seen in our lifetime. My focus has remained the same, but instead of performing in front of hundreds of people in packed convention centers, our work now goes unseen. It is what we are doing with no one watching that is going to separate many who have the same goals as me. Right now my focus has been enhancing my strengths and working on other areas of my game. All the while preparing physically. I have come to enjoy running the trails of the battlefield in my hometown of Gettysburg, PA, doing ballhandling workouts in my driveway, and finding any open hoop to work on my game. I am in the best shape I have ever been. This time in isolation has made me stronger mentally and physically.
I am a 4.0 student at Gettysburg High School. I am fortunate to go to a school that provides so many opportunities academically. I have been working remotely to complete my Sophomore school year with the focus of learning and not so much getting a grade. I don't presently have a major in mind. One occupation continues to come to mind: coaching college basketball. My Mom was a Division 1 scholarship player and coach. My Dad was a longtime high school baseball coach. I have seen the impact they have made on their players and feel like that path may be what I am called to do. I have also considered speech therapy and other service type jobs. My high basketball IQ has been a strength all my playing life, and I feel I have a lot to offer future players if I choose to take the coaching path.
I have visited schools and talked to many coaches. I have my favorite schools, coaches, and locations but I feel regardless of where I end up I can achieve what I set out to do. That is to leave the place better than how I found it. I want to make an impact on the basketball floor by helping to win championships, but also contribute to the community I would call home for 4 years.
My parents have made many sacrifices for me to achieve my goals, and I want to reward them by getting my education paid for while playing the game of basketball.
