My name is Haley Gaytan and I’ve grown up in a little town called Martins Mill. I started playing basketball for them in their Little Dribbers league when I was 4 years old. I have been to nationals representing Martins Mill Little Dribblers 2 times, and won nationals for the first time in the school’s little dribblers history. I now go to, and play for Athens Christian Preparatory Academy (ACPA). We have been named district champs 2 of my 3 years playing for them, and have made it to play-offs all 3 years. This year I was named 2018/19 1st team all district, 2018/19 All-District defensive player of the year, 2018/19 1A team all state, and 2018/19 academic all state. This summer (2019), I tried out for the Platinum Select team and was selected to play on one of the high school teams (Platinum HS White team), which has been a great experience- helping me keep in shape between seasons, strengthening my skills, and helping me to improve. My goal is after high school go to college and go into the medical field.
What makes me different from other recruits is not only do I have school and athletics, but I also have a job in which I work around 20-30 hours a week. Even though I do work so many hours, I still find time to put towards my school work, keeping my grades and GPA high, and make time to put in the work and effort needed towards my sport and family.
I would make a good candidate your team, because I give 100 percent in practice and in games. If someone is having a bad game day, I always try to pick them up and tell them not to give up. I don’t miss a practice or games, even if I’m hurt and can’t play, so I always know what’s going on.
Though I may not be the biggest or tallest player on the court, I do not let my size get the best of me when it comes to defense, nor do I let the size of the other players intimidate me.
