My name is Savannah Richardson. I am 18 years old and now a Senior in high school. I have loved the game of basketball since I was 5 years old. I started playing Little Dribblers in first grade. I live in a small town north of Beaumont, Texas. Evadale isn't really known for much except for sports. My high school coach tells me he has been looking forward to me playing since I was in 4th grade. As a 5'11" post who can also ball handle, it's given him some extra options in running our offense. I also play on a select varsity team, that experience has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and play with a different group of girls other than those I grew up with. This team has allowed me to grow as a player and improve on my weaknesses while still allowing me to showcase my talents. I am also a 3rd year starter for our Volleyball team. Playing volleyball allows me to stay in shape during the fall semester. I have received several individual awards in this sport as well including recent selection as District MVP and selection to the Beaumont Enterprise Gold Team.
Sports hasn't been my only focus, my grades are important as well. I graduated from 8th grade as Salutatorian. I will continue studying hard in high school as it is my personal goal to graduate as Salutatorian once again. I realize that basketball is important to my future but my grades are what will truly take me where I want to go. I was recently inducted to the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society. I enjoy producing many different types of art work and have won several awards. Art is just another one of the many creative outlets I enjoy.
I am very active in our local Baptist Church. I enjoy attending our youth group meetings on Wednesday nights. Being active in our church gives me the opportunity to volunteer in many different aspects. 1) In the summer, we go to the Baptist Encampment to clean it up to get it ready for the upcoming summer camps. 2) During the holidays, we raise money and solicit food donations for families who are in need. I'm looking forward to this summer so that I can volunteer at one of our local hospitals. My goals for the future include studying hard, going to college, playing college basketball and becoming a Physical Therapist. I am really looking forward to getting into the PT program so that I can fulfill my desire to help others. I have been fortunate enough in my life to witness several close relatives, including my mom experience the daily life of healthcare. I have always been intrigued by what they get to see and do on a daily basis. The healthcare setting has always appealed to me because it allows me to be around people who are in need, and have the ability to help them. I believe that I am a people person because I love to talk to people and make them laugh or smile. I don’t mind providing a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand. I honestly don’t meet many strangers. From experience, I know that healthcare workers must be kind and gentle, yet tough, but also have a sense of humor so patients won’t be afraid to talk to them. Healthcare workers must be able to communicate clearly and effectively so they can get to know their patients, in order, to take the best possible care of them. I am looking forward to continuing my journey to playing college basketball and ultimately fulfilling my dream of becoming a Physical Therapist.
