Unlike many college level basketball players, I haven't been playing since I was young. In fact, I didn't join a team until 7th grade just after my family moved to Canada when the coach noticed I was one of the tallest girls in the grade. Instead, throughout elementary and middle school I competitively swam, waking up at 4:40 am twice a week during junior high to swim and then head to morning practices for school sports. This created an immense commitment to the sports I was participating in and phenomenal time management skills. I put my all into everything I do and do it as well as I can. My coaches constantly compliment my work ethic and rarely see me complain. They always find me asking questions and applying instructions.
I didn't begin club basketball until my freshman year, but I see this as an advantage. It means that although I have improved vastly from where I began, I still have the capacity to continue to grow in my abilities and I am more flexible in positions to play.
In the classroom I apply the same work ethic as I do on the court. I help others whenever they need it and set a great example for both my teammates and my peers. I attend girl's bible study and am a member of chemistry club, student council, and the National Honor Society.
My work ethic creates a passion for me to pursue a college with high level academics and competitive sports that will push me to reach my potential. I also want a school that will initiate a strong career path in a subject I love.
