Hello,
My name is Olivia Rockwood. I am a 17 year old Junior at Windsor High School, in Windsor, VT. I have loved basketball since before I could walk. From the ages of 1-3 years, my mother was the assistance varsity coach at our local high school and would take me to all of her practices. She and my father both played college basketball, so it's in my genes.
If you were to ask my coaches about me I think they would tell you that I have a high basketball IQ and an eye for the court. I see the floor very well and facilitate the ball well. I pride myself on my leadership and ability to make my teammates better. I am a team player, but I also know that when the game is on the line, I want the ball in my hands. I can play all positions. Typically, you would see me running the point or the shooting guard position. But, I am not afraid to get underneath the basket and pull down rebounds.
My teammates would tell you that I am a great teammate on the court, but more importantly a great friend off the court. I work hard in the classroom to achieve straight A's and understand that academics come first. I play on 2 AAU teams in the Spring and attend 3 to 4 basketball camps throughout the summer. One of these camps is, Hoop Group, in Stroudsburg, PA. I attended the Hoop Group Summer Skills session 2 years in a row, the Hoop Group Shooters camp one year, and two summers ago attended the Hoop Group Bobby Hurley Girls camp. My first year at camp, as an incoming 6th grader, I was brought up to the 9th grade division and made the All Star Team. Coming back as an incoming 7th grader and achieving the same rewards. My third year at the camp, going into 8th grade playing in the high school division, I lead my team to an undefeated championship where we won and were awarded Team Champs. My personal achievements included, camp MVP, Free Throw Champ, and Hot Shot Champ. The last two years I attended the Bobby Hurley girls camp. I again lead my team to the Championship where we were again award Team Champs. Personal achievement over the last two years included camp MVP, Hot Shot and Free Throw Champ and Floor General. It was amazing to have Bobby Hurley hand me my awards. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to be coached and lead through drills by him. It was an experience I look forward to having again this summer.
I have been fortunate to play under some amazing coaches. I am very good at adjusting to different coaches and different styles of play. My passion and drive comes from hearing about my parents achievements in the game and watching my cousin achieve her dreams of playing college basketball. She received a Div I scholarship to play and had many amazing experiences. I am excited at the opportunity to reach this goal and am hopeful to playing basketball at the highest collegiate level. I know how rare and special this opportunity is and I know what it takes to get there. I am committed to facing the challenges that may arise along the way.
Warmest regards,
Olivia Rockwood
