Hello, my name is Ayame Colson. As I am now entering my last year of high school, I have come to realize that I am pretty good at playing basketball and I believe I could earn my own way to a college degree. the past three years of high school have been academics, basketball and just being a teenage girl. I believe I will be an asset to a university and their women's basketball program. Even though I did not realize it, I have been preparing for it since the first grade.
My first memories of basketball were while I was in kindergarten watching my older sisters being picked up to go to basketball practices and games and me not being old enough to play yet. The coach that picked up my sisters told me recently that he used to notice me standing in the front door watching my sister leave and decided that he would start a second grade AAU Club team. So in the first grade I joined my first basketball team; the Boo Williams Black Widows program. I cannot put into words how much I enjoyed playing basketball even though I had no clue of what I was doing in the first grade.
I have been playing almost year-round since I started. I enjoyed the traveling, team bonding, practices, training and could not get enough of the games. Basketball is very high paced and strategic sport that requires forethought and a lot of physical and mental preparation. The game is was very interesting to me, so I begin to get more serious about my future playing the sport. Every summer, after the AAU season and before school starts, I travel to Louisiana to live with my dad (yes that same coach that picked up my sisters and started my first team) to train and improve my game. I love this sport!
