Dear Coach,
My name is Janaye and I am going to be a senior at Lind-Ritzville High School in Ritzville WA. For club teams, I play for Spokane Legacy, an AAU travel team out of Spokane WA. I will graduate in 2021 and am currently maintaining a 3.7 cumulative GPA while taking multiple AP college classes. I pride myself in the Math courses. I have gotten the opportunity to to be around basketball my whole life, weather it was managing for state champion teams at a young age, or playing for state placing teams.
I am 5 feet 9 inches tall. For positions, I have played them all. Every year for HS is different and I have been asked to fill different rolls each year. While I am usually placed at a 1, 2 or 3, I have excelled at every position. Post defense is something I have been taught very well and is something I pride myself in. Playing at 2 different high schools and 2 AAU programs has allowed me to be coached by an array of coaches. I believe that playing for a variety of coaching styles has adapted me to be coachable on and off the court.
Basketball has given me many opportunities. Traveling to new places for tournaments, getting to learn about and visit colleges and most of all, basketball has provided me with friendships from all over, which is something I will value most of all.
My freshman high school season I started on a team that finished 2nd in the WIAA 2B State Championships. In the State Championship I guarded anyone from a quick 5'2" shooting guard, to an experienced 6'3" D1 recruited post who had knocked some of my ribs out of place earlier in the season! My sophomore year I lead the team in points, steals, and rebounds. We finished the season 4th in the state where I was also ranked 3rd in the all-state at the 2B WIAA State Tournament. I have also been on the all opponent team all three years.
Some of my other passions include track and field, volleyball, and horse riding. In track I have pursued high and long jump and have placed at state my freshman and sophomore year and unfortunately I was not able to compete my junior year with all the COVID cancellations. Along with jumping, I ran the 100 and 4x100m, also qualifying for state. On top of sports, I spend most of my free time working with my animals on the farm.
Please don't hesitate to reach out and call or text with questions or anything else you may want to know. Best of luck and thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Janaye Wilkie
