To coaches out there: "And though she be little, she is fierce." -William Shakespeare
I am the girl who decides to go for it, being a short or small size player (as I have been told, by many coaches out there, lol!), I have to set my personal athletic goals high to overcome adversity.
My volleyball IQ is an attribute I take pride in as well as my grit.
I will be coachable for any coach that gives me an opportunity to play for them and learn from them, whether its a top coach or a coach who's looking for a player that would complete their team.
I really believe there is at least 1 thing I can take away from the coaches I meet.
I don't mind the comments about being small and I have really learned that, despite my fears and frustration, in the past, I just want to play volleyball for a great program.
I will break the belief that I have to fit into someone's idea of a positional player- Tall players play front row/short players play back row.
I will prove that it takes more than a superior stature to excel in this game.
I will be 100% on and off the court, as a female, hispanic, student-athlete I always want to have a legacy to give to my siblings and the girls that come after me. I want them to know that the journey is not always easy, fast, or perfect, but it's those times that will build your character and give you strength on the court when the game is on the line or your season is a wash, but you cross that finish line with your volleyball family and your heads held high.
I will always 1) give you my all, 2) be respectful to my teammates and coaches, 3) stay true to myself. 4) God-Family-Volleyball
My collegiate aspirations is to play for a college that is a good fit for both of us. I would like to study business/education in the area of sports medicine and transfer to medical school to get my chiropractic doctorate. I want to be part of a college that matches me academically, I don't want to settle or miss out playing for a school because their academic program/classes are not what I'm looking for.
The college I go to has to be affordable, I will be applying for financial assistance and scholarships, so the program has to make sense financially. My parents will not be able to help me with college finances, so I have to be upfront with colleges that I would love to attend, but do not want to spend my post graduate paying off debt. Both my parents grew up rich in love and family, but poor financially, my dad has taught since I was little to invest in good choices and I will lead with that advice as I look for colleges.
The college interested in me will help me where I want to go, it offers my major, it gives me an opportunity grow as a student and a person, it's challenging and exciting, the professors are excited about exploring and going beyond the course name. Overall, the college has to feel right, the college I go to has to feel like home, I'm going to be spending the next 4 years there, when I visit my family I want to feel that I cant wait to get back to my campus!
