Hi, I'm Kayla Kirkendall! I started diving my freshman year of high school after 9 years of gymnastics, and I have loved it ever since. In this, I stand out because of my perseverance and quick learning skills; in the past years I have upgraded from learning an approach to getting my front double and inward 1 1/2, and I'm currently working on a front 1 1/2 with a full twist (way different than freshman year for sure)! The best part of my experience has been laughing my way through getting new dives (many flops) and the joy of getting my goals or nailing a dive at a competition. This is unique for me as well because I am the only one competing on my team (of 2) currently. Apart from diving, I am very focused academically. I'm not sure what I want to major in, but I am interested in Environmental Policy/Sciences, Food Sciences, Economics, or Political Science. Hard classes are where I thrive; I love to be in a space where I learn and improve everyday, similar to my sports! Another big part of my life is music. One of my favorite things to do is play guitar or jazz out with a group on trombone, although I will always have a love for classical playing. As a part of a team, I will bring my work ethic and positive mindset, making the space a place to improve and get our goals, but not forgetting health and happiness. Although my diving team is small, I've had the opportunity to experience being in a large team for cross country and track and field (3 years varsity so far!), as well as working well with others at my jobs. Overall, I learn fast and will always bring a smile to the boards, so I hope you find potential in me being a part of your team!
