Hi, my name is Annie Bartlett and I live in Lithia, Florida and attend Joe E. Newsome High School or better known as Newsome. I’ve been diving for Newsome and Team Colwill Diving for 3 years. Before I started diving, I was a level 8 gymnast and competed all around the Southeast and even as far away as Phoenix. After many years of competitive gymnastics, I decided that I would like to try another sport as well. I wanted to compete in a sport that is closely associated with many of the core skills of gymnastics but one that is more conducive to supporting the athlete and diving seemed to be a good match.
I'm very excited about my progress and I want to continue to get better and help any team succeed. In my Freshman year (after diving for about 2 months), I made it to Districts, Conference and Regionals but I was not ready to compete at the state level. Last year, my Sophomore year, I took first place at Districts, Conference, Regionals and finished 10th in States. This year as a junior I took first again at district and regionals and got 9th at States( we did not have western conference due to Covid).
I’ve been working on physical conditioning above and beyond our normal Club practices and because Covid protocols at the pool really set things back. My physical conditioning goal is to get stronger and get more height off the board. I joined a conditioning program that meets 3 days a week and we work on legs, abs, arms and cardio.
The bottom line is I want to become a collegiate level student athlete. I’ve always enjoyed sports and feel like it something that defines me as a person. I’m looking to major in marketing so I can pursue a career in sports marketing or something tied to the sports industry.
I’m very fortunate to dive competitively and I know it is up to me to make the most of my abilities in the classroom and at the pool. I also know that it is also about how I train, dive and lead my life that will not only help myself but also my teammates, friends and family.
