Hi! My Name is Emily and I am a junior at Winchester High School in Massachusetts. When I was a year old, I started swimming and when I was 3, I started doing gymnastics classes and I soon discovered I wanted to learn how to do flips because the older girls could. I continued doing competitive gymnastics and swimming so my freshman year, I joined the high school Varsity Swim and Dive team. I met two of the captains that year who happened to be divers and after watching them compete in a couple of meets, I decided that it was something I wanted to try as it was a way I could utilize my skills from my gymnastics background. After my first practice, I immediately fell in love with the sport and just after three practices, I competed in one of the high school meets. After that high school season, I continued to train and learn new dives, but unfortunately, I tore my ACL and my lateral and medial meniscus on my left knee during the high school Gymnastics season in February 2022. However, I worked hard during my recovery to return to the sport I love and I was able to compete in the following high school diving season. Since I have been cleared to compete, I had my struggles and my improvements, but I soon competed in USA Nationals for 1m and 3m and qualified for my first AAU Nationals, which took place in July 2023. My love for this sport has grown since this past high school season because I qualified for my first Sectionals and States competition, which has given me a sense of accomplishment and an outcome that was worth all my hard work. Doing three sports at the same time (competitive swimming, diving, and gymnastics) is hard to balance with school work as I would often go to two practices everyday. However, I was able to maintain my academic excellence, while also ensuring I got my practices in. When practicing, I am always looking for corrections to fix, willing to try new dives even if they scare me, and supporting and cheering on my teammates whenever I can. I would love the opportunity to dive in college so I can continue my passion for this sport and be surrounded in a positive, encouraging community with teammates and coaches. In addition, I hope to study physical therapy in college so I can help those who went through injuries to recover and return back to the sport they love.
