I have been participating in sports my whole life. When I started diving seven years ago, I never imagined I would develop a love for it. JianLi You has been my coach since I started diving, and I’ve been lucky enough to be coached by JianLi, Krysta Palmer and Sharae Zheng, who are all fantastic divers and coaches! Prior to diving, I was a competitive downhill ski racer, played competitive soccer and did some gymnastics. I love sports of all types and consider myself naturally athletic, but as I got older I wanted to focus on diving and not spread myself too thin with too many different activities.
Diving has taught me many life lessons throughout the years, including the value of hard work, making goals (and achieving them), teamwork and perseverance. I have learned that not everything in diving is going to be perfect right away, and that you have to keep trying.
I have qualified for U.S. Nationals four times throughout my diving career. As a diver, I am very coachable and am a good listener. I believe that being a good teammate and supporting others is essential in diving. Diving is very important to me, and so is academics. I do my best to manage my time so that I can maintain a high GPA while reaching my diving goals. Because of my grades, I was able to join the National Honor Society as a Junior in High School, and I am also taking multiple Honors and AP classes while still achieving a high GPA.
