I was a gymnast who first learned about diving through the Olympics because anything with flipping captures my attention. In sixth grade, I began training with my club team, Pike Dive Academy. This June, my coaches awarded me the Ban Family Scholarship for my hard work, dedication, and team support, which will fund my training next year. My goal is to be able to continue diving in college, and my team’s faith in me has inspired me to work even harder.
Now, I am taking greater initiative over my training and growth. This summer as a rising Junior, I attended RipFest camp in Indiana and was trained by Olympic coaches. This fall, I plan to heighten my difficulty degree for my JO 1-meter list by getting a 1 ½ in each direction and completing my 3-meter list. In addition, I am currently working with my public high school to form a diving team to make diving more accessible to all students.
In school, I take rigorous classes, maintain a straight-A average, and enjoy creative writing. Outside of school, I have been studying classical piano for ten years. I also started a story program at my local library, teaching kids to love reading as much as I do. As a member of the rare disease community, I volunteer extensively to raise awareness for children with autoimmune diseases, including trips to Capitol Hill to lobby for research funds. I have received service awards from the National Institute of Health, the Arthritis Foundation, and the National Scleroderma Foundation.
