I have been diving for over 10 years with private clubs, my summer league team and my high school team. I dive both 1M and 3M as well as practice techniques on tower (5M and 7M). Dive has been a part of me for so long that I define myself as a diver and cannot imagine not diving throughout college. I am excited to think of beginning college and starting to work with new coaches, gathering new insights and tips on improving my skills and abilities.
I have established a leadership role with my summer dive league program as a coach. I hope to impart to them an appreciation for the sport that I love. I am also a leader at Alexandria Dive Club, often leading the team in stretching and conditioning. My coach often asks me to welcome new divers to the club and make sure they are introduced and feel included in joining our club. I also lead my age group in my club in showing fearlessness in trying and learning new dives. While others allow their fears to get the best of them when trying a new dive, I try not to over-think a dive prior to getting it off the board for the first few times. I would prefer to face my fears and try a new dive as opposed to letting the “dive psych me out.” I recognize that fear is simply a part of learning new dives and bettering myself as a diver and try not to let it get in the way of my training.
I have been to States for my freshman, sophomore, and junior year in high school and exceeded the All American qualifying score during my State meet both this year and last year. I was able to reach my goal of improving my state score and was also able to win the girls' Region 6A State diving championship. Next year I would like to improve upon my most recent score and hopefully win again. I also dove over the summer in the US Dive Age Range Nationals as one of the younger divers in the age range. I found the level of competition at that meet exciting and it pushed me to reach for more difficult dives.
My current dive lists are:
1M - 103B, 201B, 301B, 401B, 5122D/5124D, 104C, 203B, 303C, 403C, and 5223D. I am currently working on 104B/105C, getting all of my 03s into pike, and diving in some of my twisters. I would like to get all of those dives to competition level for upcoming meets this year and make age range or junior nationals again.
3M - 103B, 201B, 301B, 401B, 5231D, 105B, 203C, 303C, 404C,and 5233D. I am working on 205 and 405 right now and hope to compete those and make it farther than regions in US Diving competitions this year.
I am a hard worker who does not shy away from challenges on and off the diving board. I have a 4.3 grade point average, taking AP and Honors courses for all my core subjects. I hope to study Chemical Engineering or Chemistry. I also like to play the cello and was selected for the Chamber Orchestra as a freshman. As with dive, I thrive in competitions and have been selected for Districts Honors Orchestras since 7th grade. For the first time this year, I also auditioned for the Senior Regional Orchestra and was selected as 11th chair cello out of the 58 to audition. I also helped establish the Red Cross Club at Hayfield Secondary School and am currently the Vice President. This year is also the first year that our school is establishing a Writing Center and I am helping to tutor and provide edits and constructive critiques to assist others in becoming better writers. I find it very invigorating to help others grow and improve their skills whether it be diving, writing and/or playing the cello.
