Diving has not always been on my radar when it came to sports. For nearly 11 years I identified as a gymnast but in middle school I got bored, uninspired and stopped improving. Another teammate invited me to do a summer camp and I just fell in love with the sport. It had many of the same elements of gymnastics like precision, points for degrees of difficulty and competition as an individual and team. Freshman year I began diving and made it to the state competition. I did not place in my first year at state finals but this experience gave me the drive to improve and set a goal to make the podium the next year. I made the podium at the state finals in both my sophomore and junior year (7th and 8th in state respectively). For senior year I will be practicing off-season and plan to come in at the top 5 of the state final competition.
As a student and an athlete, the last three years has taught me to always have a goal in site, to push myself outside my comfort zone and not give up. Even when I fail/smack a dive, this just drives me to improve and perfect the dive further. I also appreciate working together in a team environment but being responsible for my own scores. If given the opportunity, I would bring a high standard of excellence and commitment to the team, both athletically and academically.
