I may have started the game of golf later than most, but how I was introduced to golf is special to me. I originally started with my papa teaching me how to play. Going into high school I only knew the basics and hadn’t played 18 holes yet, however I still decided to try out for the team my freshman year. Though it was an inconsistent start, I fell in love with the sport. It also gave me quality time and bonding with my grandfather, plus the opportunity to be part of a team and explore a new sport.
I only played in one match my freshman year but ‘played behind’ in several other matches because my coach saw potential in my abilities. My coach awarded me ‘Most Improved Swing’ my first season. He was also impressed with my constant positive and open attitude to learn, as well my ability to apply his feedback well. He encouraged me to continue to work on my consistency within the game and thought I had the potential to be an excellent player. I took that to heart and through my dedication and hard work, by the beginning of my junior year I was co-captain of the varsity team, #2 player (#1 is an awesome freshman that you will see in the future) on the team, consistently driving over 215 yards and the ‘go to person‘ for our new high school team golf coach. My private coach says I improve every time he sees me and expects me to continue to grow and excel as a golfer.
I want to play colligate golf and be a part of team that pushes me to improve my golf skills. I am strong, dedicated, quite competitive and have a positive attitude. I have the drive to be the best I can be with everything I do, and this leads me to believe I can be the perfect asset for any team. Not only do I show the commitment and dedication in sports, I reciprocate the same amount in my schoolwork. For example, I am on the honors track for engineering and take several AP classes as a part of my course load. I know I have a lot of growth ahead of me and the coach that welcomes me to their team will have the opportunity to shape the type of golfer I become. I am a scholar athlete, so my education is equally as important as my dedication to sports. I hope you take the opportunity to get to know me and can see the potential in me.
