Personal Statement

Hi, I am Ellie Shirley and I am in the graduating class of 2023. My GPA is a 4.1, and I participate in honors courses including Honors Spanish 4 and Algebra 3 honors.  I have been playing golf for the short time of 3 years, and only competitvely for two. Ever since I started, I wanted to play in every tournament or competition setting I could get into. During my sophmore year of state, which was my very first 18-hole two day tournment, I shot a 119 the second day. This past year, being a junior, I shot a 73 at state. I have brought my average score to a 77 in the short time of one year. This is because I love to put in the hard work that it takes to play competitive golf. Improving greatly, I now participate in JGAA, AJGA, Notah Begay, and Southwest PGA events. I am on the Desert Mountian High School golf team, and I am their number one player, placing 23th in the state of Arizona. I love to golf, and I am a great team player, as shown by recieving the MVP award from my high school team. I will go above and beyond to support my team, and I put in extra hours on and off the golf course to improve my skills. This includes working with my swing coach, to golf centered workouts, to keeping a good attitude on the golf course.

After the round I went to the range to make sure that these mistakes did not happen again, and I was able to shoot 75 the next day, fixing my mistakes. This score put me in the top 15 of the girls championship JGAA division
