Hello all! My name is Reyna Lynn Naranjo and I'm a senior attending Bishop Union High School looking to compete on a college golf team. I've been playing golf since I had a pacifier in my mouth and started competing when I was around seven years old. I play on my high school boys' varsity golf team since we do not have enough girls for a team. As of my junior year, I am seated in the #1 spot on the traveling team. I live in the small, rural town of Bishop, California, and am about 3-4 hours away from the nearest city. As a result, I'm used to traveling quite a bit of distance to tournaments and competitions.
Due to competing on a men's golf team, I am used to playing from distances between 6000 to 6300 yards. My home course is 6146 yards from the men's tees, and my average scores consist of the mid-eighties. My best round is a 76 from this distance. When I do compete from shorter distances in women's tournaments, my score averages from about 75 to 84. My all-time best round is a 69 shot from the forward tees at my home course.
Off the golf course I have quite a bit of hobbies and clubs, and work two jobs. I have been playing violin for as long as I have been playing golf and am currently my chamber orchestra's concert master. I have a passion for music as I also sing in my high school's honor choir as a second soprano. My school clubs consist of mathletes, language club, hugs club, debate club, and art history club. I teach violin to little kids every Monday and work as a waitress at my golf course's restaurant on the weekends.
At school, I have a packed schedule. Starting with Honors Economics/AP Government, Honors Spanish IV, Music Appreciation (college course), AP Literature, AP Psychology, and my last period is Statistics. My current grades in these classes are A's and I have a B in my literature class. My cumulative GPA has fluctuated between 4.2 and 4.3 in the past five years.
Having a packed schedule and plates of responsibilities has left golf as my scapegoat. I constantly crave for school or work to be over so I can get out onto the course. Weather of 116 degrees and hail has not stopped me from doing what I love the most. Being on a college golf team is extremely important to me since golf is my favorite sport, hobby, and pastime.
