Hello! As you probably already know my name is Regan and I am entering my junior year of high school. I would consider it an honor to continue my golf career by playing on a collegiate team. After playing softball for five years, in April of 2017 (8th grade), I decided I wanted to play golf in high school. To be a contributing member of the team from day one, between 8th and 9th grade, I began working with my current swing coach, spent five-six days a week at the driving range or playing on various courses, started learning the rules and joined the Southern California PGA Junior Tour (SCPGA Junior).
I have always enjoyed spending time with my dad at the driving range. His love of golf was a driving factor in deciding to learn the game; however, the challenge that comes with needing physical skill as well as mental perseverance is why I have come to love the game. Golf makes my brain work like no other sport has in the past. Golf requires me to constantly be thinking about my game; whether it is about club selection or the rule in play, golf requires me to understand how to adjust when needed to have the best possible round.
Since my freshman year, I have played on the Upland (California) High School women’s varsity golf team. We are a tight knit group that believes in encouragement, constant improvement and above all else, each other. Being part of my high school team has taught me that golf isn’t just about my individual contribution. To be the best teammate, I must also have a positive attitude, constantly supporting my teammates by being their biggest cheerleader.
In addition, to keep growing and improving as a golfer, I compete year-round in tournaments put on by the SCPGA Junior association. I initially played on the Junior Development Tour (August 2017 to December 2018) and in January 2019 qualified to advance to the Players Tour. The Players Tour provides me the ongoing opportunity to play in one and two-day 18-hole tournaments on challenging courses throughout Southern California.
While my primary goal is to be an actor and want to attend a college or university with a musical theater or acting program, I view golf as a life skill and will always be able to use the lessons I learn on the golf course in the future. I am active member of the Upland High School theater department including being selected for the honors theater class (as of the 2018-19 school year) and was recently inducted into the International Thespians Society. In addition, I attend classes for acting, singing and dance at Ovation School of Performing Arts in Upland, California.
I understand the importance of balancing my love of golf and acting with academics. My goal is to maintain a 3.7 GPA or higher throughout high school as well as college. I believe that I will be able to achieve this goal because I push myself academically with the same drive and passion that allows me to continuously improve on the golf course. I currently have over a 4.0 GPA.
If given the opportunity to play on a college team, my desire to be successful both on and off the course will allow me to make a positive impact to the team personally, academically and through consistent improvement of my golf game.
Thank you for your attention.
