My name is Sydney Taylor, and I am a current junior at Liberty Common High School, one of the most rigorous, highly ranked high schools in Colorado. I am constantly pushed by my peers and my sister who is also an outstanding student and tennis player, and I want to be up with the best of the best. I manage an extremely high GPA while also working at a local golf course, managing clubs and taking part in NHS leadership, and playing varsity volleyball as well as golf. Growing up I was always in and out of the hospital for a critical bone disorder called CRMO and I was not allowed to play contact sports. However, I struck gold with golf. My dad is a scratch golfer and I grew up playing with him not only as a father-figure but as a coach and mentor. At my golf club, there are no other girls my age who play golf, exactly zero. But I have not let this stop me, for I have found my groove with playing with my dad and his friends, the amazing older ladies in our club's ladies organization, JGAC, and some other high school guys my age. Because of this, my game is not exactly textbook. I weightlift with my dad and push myself to reach great distances, and I average around 255-275 yards off the tee with my driver. I have learned how to hold my own, function independently and confidently, work with and network with adults, and how to keep up with the other long-hitting boys I golf with. For these reasons, I want to prove to myself, to my peers, to coaches, to my friends and family, and to my community that I have what it takes to reach a higher level with my golf game.
