Personal Statement

I am a junior athlete who is a golfer from Orlando, Florida. I have played sports since I was in kindergarten including basketball for 11 years, softball for 5 years, equistrian for 3 years and volleyball for 1 year. (I didn't enjoy volleyball because our team was not competitive.) I have only been playing golf for 3 1/2 years and during that time I only played 4-5 months out of the year because of my other sports. This year I descided that I only wanted to play golf and prepare myself to play in college. I chose golf because it is a sport for life, I love to practice and compete, and the challenge and rewards it offers. Golf offers a lot of challenges and I am a very determined person. I am interested in a school that has a competitive golf team at their conference and regional levels and competes also on the national stage at either the Division I or II level. I want a coach who is hands on and great at developing players. I want to develop my game to where playing on tour after college could be an option for me. I enjoy a coach who is structured and orderly. I love to learn and I am very coachable. I have a 3.8 gpa at my private school that is know for challenging academics. I am in NHS and have been on the honor role my entire high school career. I want to major in athletic training/sports medicine and possibly minor in art. I am the vice president of my school's sport medicine club. I work with our trainer at the football, varsity girls basketball and softball games. I was an assistant coach for our girls middle school basketball team and loved it. I have nearly 400 community service hours. I am interested in a school in the south. I would like to play close to home (Orlando) or near a city that has a lot to offer. The size of school does not matter too much. I prefer to play Division I or on a competitive Division II team. I want to be challenged with my academics and prepared for the future but also live a balanced life with golf being a very consuming priority. A christian-based school would be great like my private high school or at least opportunities on campus for a spiritual environment and growth. I like being part of a team so team closeness and chemistry is important. I want an opportunity to contribute as a freshman but also understand that it might take some time in developing my game. I would prefer to play for a more competitive team than just one I can play on immediately.I want to play for someone who truly wants me. I would hope that by my junior year I would be one of the top players in scoring and leading the team. I am a leader by my actions and not so much by being talkative. I take sports, competition and working to be my best very seriously and would only want to play for a team where the coach and my team mates expect the same. I will provide leadership to my team through my work ethic, my attitude and my focus. I would also make sure we had a lot of fun.
