My dream is to become a Pediatric Surgeon with a background in Child Psychology, My passion to work with children was fueled by a unique opportunity volunteering at the Mother Teresa Orphanage in India. The few weeks I spent at the orphanage changed me profoundly, and instilled in me the desire to work with children. When I spent time with "Chotu" (Little One in Hindi), he made me realize how fragile life is, and how important it is to help people fight for it, especially the young. Chotu was born with his right foot at a 90 degree angle, and he’d already had two surgeries by the time he was 6 months old. On my last day at the Orphanage, as I left the room, he stood up crying for me to stay with him. His determination to change his destiny, to beat his condition, and to emerge stronger from his ordeal, awoke a desire in me to help other children like him reach their own goals, and fulfill their own dreams.
I have two other passions that I simply don’t want to give up on. The first is Art (Painting and Mixed Media), and it’s really important for me to find a school that also has a strong Arts program. My other abiding passion is Golf. I suppose at some level, while Art helps me express myself in unique ways, Golf teaches me the discipline and hard work that are essential to being great, not just in my career, but in life as well. These two diverse passions, in their own ways, keep me grounded, and make me a dreamer, in equal measure.
In our increasingly fluid global world, one defined by intense competition, students with the strength of purpose to endure and the fearlessness to create new things will be best positioned for success. While, my long term goal is to contribute to the field of medicine, I feel that an undergraduate program that allows me the flexibility to integrate my passion for Child Psychology, the Fine Arts and Golf, into my learning experience will really help me grow into the person I aspire to be.
