Personal Statement

My name is Faith Nicole Scott. I grew up in a small city named Columbus, Georgia. I started playing golf when I was in 4th grade. I was introduced to golf by my father. I went to First Tee to start learning to play golf. I was scared at first, because I had never played or even picked up a golf club. After my first lesson where they taught me the basics to a golf swing, I knew I wanted to play this sport forever. I continued to go to First Tee to get lessons, but also play in the monthly tournaments. After First Tee I was introduced to  U.S Kids. I played in this weekly tournaments for most of my golf career. It was quite a drive for my parents, but it was all worth getting an oppournity to play at top notch courses. It was a great experience for me, because it exposed me to two day tournaments that I have never played in before. I then grew out of U.S Kids and started playing in The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. I was a little scared at first, because for one thing I couldn't have a caddie, I was out there out by myself. After my first Hurricane Tournament I knew this association is where I neeeded to be. Through this process my parents have been there for me. They drive me to my tournaments, buy me new golf clothes and golf clubs, they even pay for me to play in tournaments and have golf lessons. Without them I wouldn't be the person I am today. Golf means a lot to me but so do good grades. Golf is just a hobby and hopefully a life long career, but right now good grades are more important so I can get in a good college and get a great job. I am determined to practice and do whatever I have to do to be the best I can be in my golf career.

  • Dalton Junior Classic
  • 8/19/17 to 8/20/17
  • This was my first time playing this golf course. I was playing in 99 degree weather both days. I tried to be aware of where I wanted to place the ball since I had not played this course before. The greens were fast and the fairways were tight. After the first day I shot a 84. The second day I had a better idea of where to place the golf ball. I was a little more aggressive on attacking some of the pins. After my first nine holes I had birdied one hole and made the turn at two over. I finished my back nine strong and only had two bogeys. I shot a 76 and placed tied for 6th out of 15. The yardage was from the white tees.

Missing the green often resulted in steep hills below the green or into woods making it difficult to get up and down for your next shot. The greens were very fast and the fairways were very narrow. The first day I shot a 87. The second day it started raining and we had a one hour delay. After the rain passed there was a lot of wind that followed behind the rain. The second day I shot a 84. I finished 7th out of 13 girls in my age group. I finished 13th out of 24 girls in the tournament.

The first day I knew I had to perform my best due to the weather conditions predicted for the next day. It was hot and windy. On the front nine I shot a 39. On the back nine I had two birdies and finished with a 39. I lead the other number two players in my foursome by two or more strokes. I shot a 78 the first day and we were in first placed by three strokes. The second day I came ready to play a better round to ensure we won the championship. Due to the weather conditions the second day of the tournament was cancelled. My team won first place and this was my first state championship. My score of 78 placed 6th out of all 75 players competing. I am looking forward to next year state so that I can get another ring.

The greens were hard to putt on due to how fast they were and they and lot of slopes. The first day I finished with a 84. The next day I played the course better due to what I learned yesterday about the course. I was hitting more fairways and hitting more greens in regulation. I was putting a lot better than the first day. I shot a 82 the second day and finished tied for 6th out of 15.

I played 5433 total yards at the golf course. The first day it was very windy. It was hard to know which way to play the ball due to the crosswinds. The first day I shot a 94. The second day the wind was not blowing as hard. I shot an 88 the second day. I placed 11th out of 14 players.

  • GSGA Junior Golf Girls Tournament
  • 7/04/16 to 7/06/16
  • This was my first time playing in a three day tournament. The course was in good condition. The distances were longer than what I was used to playing. The total distance for the course was 6230 so I was trying to figure out how to play the course. The fairway grass was tight and the greens were fast and the rough was thick. The course had a lot of sand bunkers also. At the end of the first day I shot a 87. The second day I felt a lot better knowing the course. I was hitting more greens and making some important putts. At the end of the second day I shot a 84. After 36 holes the tournament put you in a flight with people who were shooting around the same scores as you. In my flight I was the leader after 36 holes. On the final day I was just trying to shot in the 70's. I had two birdies and shot a shot a 77 to win my flight by three strokes.

My coach had talked to me about just playing this tournament like every tournament I had played. The fairways were flat and the greens were fast. There was water on most of the holes. I shot an 82 at my first ever state tournament. I was very proud of myself. My team placed runner up out of all the 5AAAAA golf teams. It was a great way to end the golf season as a freshman on the varsity team.

  • I had played at this golf course before so I remembered how I should play it. They moved the tee boxes back so I was playing a longer distance. On the first day the weather was mild. The greens were fast. I had one birdie on the front nine and one birdie on the back nine. I shot an 87 on the first day. On the second day I came with a different mind set and ready to play my best. The pin positions were put in the hardest places so you had no choice but to not go straight for the pin. I had two birdies on the back nine. I shot an 87 the second day. I had 4 birdies at the end of both days. I placed 6th out of 15 players. Since I been playing in two day tournaments I have become more comfortable and my scores have dropped.

The first day it was snowing while I was teeing off and it was hard to see where the ball was going. It was hard to hit the ball because my hands were really cold. Everyone's scores were higher than normal due to the weather conditions. I shot a 96 on the first day. On the second day the weather was better and I shot a 94. I placed 9th out of 13 players.

  • Publix Junior Classic
  • 12/21/15 to 12/23/15
  • This was the first time that I had ever played in this tournament. It was a difficult course. It also had tough wind conditions. On the first day of the tournament the wind conditions were pretty mild but still hard to predict. The green speeds were fast uphill and downhill. They had some of the hole positions in hard places so we could not go straight for the pin. I shot a 98 on the first day. The second day the wind conditions were harsh. It was really hard to predict what club to hit because you would have to go up three clubs to get the ball on the green. The second day I shot a 100. I did make the cut but I learned a lot and got some good tips about the course. I hope I can attend this tournament next year.

  • This tournament was at the Montgomery Country Club. It was a pretty flat golf course. The first day I started out pretty shaky and shot a 90. The highest I have shot in a while. The end of the day I just meditated and was thinking to hit the fairways for tomorrow. The next day I had a different mindset. I put the previous day behind me and focused on the day ahead. When it was time to tee off I knew it would be a different day. That day I shot 8 shots better than the day before. I hit 71% of the fairways the second day. I had a two day total of 172 and took home first place. It felt so good that all my hard work had paid off. I know I still have many more tournaments to win but for now it is time for me to keep practicing and improve my game.

  • 4AAAA Area Tournament
  • This year I felt confident coming into this area tournament because I felt that my game has come a long way over the last couple of months due to the hard work I had put in. It was a delay due to the weather conditions. When I finally started my round it was very humid. The fairways were wet and the greens were slow. I shot a 78 and I was the low medalist for the tournament out of 32 players. My team placed first in the area tournament and was going to play in the state.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
