My name is Mariah Bushue; I'm a senior at St. Anthony High School in Effingham, Illinois. I started taking summer junior golf classes when I was about 8 years old, but I've been playing seriously for about 5 years. I've played on the girl's varsity golf team since I was a freshman. This year, my team was able to advance to sectionals and we played our best round of the season.
I stand out from other golfers because of my love of taking risks and my willingness to learn and get better. I love the risky shots on the golf course when every spectator thinks you are going to fail, but in my head I get this drive to prove them wrong. I will always admit that I can improve and I take criticism very well. When I started golf, it wasn't easy for me to control my emotions during a bad round, but I've learned to overcome those bad shots and make every hole a new one.
I'm excited for the amazing opportunities I will have in my near future. My high school team wasn't just a team, we were a family and I hope I can experience that in college also. Ideally, I'd like to attend a school with a good business program, but most importantly I'd like the opportunity to continue playing golf while furthering my education.
