Hi! My name is Sydney Bornhorst and I have been playing golf since I was 6 years old. All 4 years of high school I was on the varsity team and made all conference all 4 years. My Junior year of high school, I shot my personal best of 37 at a 9 hole match and then won 2nd place at the NSC tournament. I have played plenty of other sports in my lifetime, but golf is the sport I'm committed to. I am indeed a freshman in community college at the moment. I chose community college to save money and give myself more time to decide on what I wanted to do with my life. I have wanted to play collegiate golf all my life, not just on any team, but on a team treated like a family and that always supports one another.
Golf runs through my blood so to speak. My dad is an ex professional teacher from Mchenry Country Club and Skokie. My cousin Scott Beaugureau is the current head professional at The Grove CC and was the head professional at MCC for 22 years. My uncles and grandfather were scratch golfers too.
Golf to me isn't about scoring the best every time you play, it's about learning. Your patience level has to be there. Everyone is going to have a bad shot, putt, chip, you name it. Everyone is also going to have a bad day, but you can't let that destroy your mentality. It should drive you to get stronger, practice more and understand what you are doing wrong and find the patience to fix that. I have always had that problem growing up, my mentality and always getting mad at every bad shot I would have. It would destroy me. As I got older I learned that golf isn't just about the score, your mind plays a huge part in where this will take you.
