My name is Abby-Grace Forbes, and I have been playing golf since I was big enough to hold a golf club. My father and my brother are avid golfers, so it was only natural for me to play as well. My mom is a great cheerleader and driver! I started taking lessons from PGA Professional Mitchell Moore in 2013, and began playing golf competitively in 5th grade with the PGA Junior League at Novadell Golf Course in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. I have always enjoyed playing golf, and even when I get very frustrated during a match or tournament, I walk away with a learning experience of the game. Thanks to continued instruction from Mitchell Moore and great coaching from my high school coach, I have made great progress in the past couple of years, going from high 50's in a 9 hole match to low to mid 40's now. I am a hard worker and one who does not give up until I master a concept or skill. This determination benefits me both on the course and in the classroom.
Unfortunately, there are not many female golfers in our district, so I am often paired with guys or with younger players in our matches. I am currently the oldest player on our high school girls' team, and am looked up to by the other female players. While playing or even practicing with my teammates, I always try to encourage them and help them with their game in any way possible. I enjoy playing tournaments in the different series with which I play and also representing my high school during our golf season. These tournaments allow me to compete with lots of other female golfers and help to push me to keep on improving my game.
I plan to play golf at the college level and hopefully even to continue on after college. I love that golf is a game that one never outgrows, and a game that I will be able to enjoy with my own children and grandchildren, just like my father does with me.
