Dear Coaches,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to you today to briefly introduce myself with hopes to speak with you further about your Women’s Golf team.
I have completed my junior year at Reservoir High School, Fulton Maryland. I have been playing golf since the age of 10 and have been a part of the local First Tee Chapter for many years. Currently, I participate with the Howard County First Tee program (can provide references from chapter coaches) as a volunteer coach for juniors in the program. I take pride in promoting golf in underserved communities as well as fostering the next generation of female golfers. On average, I shoot 79-85 for an 18 hole round, but believe with structured collegiate level coaching I will be able to lower my score significantly.
My high school has a very small golf team and so I have dedicated my time to highlight the sport so that I can leave the team better than when I started as a freshman. I am the team captain and the first female in the school’s history to qualify for districts, counties and in 2022 I qualified and competed in the 2022 University of Maryland State Championship (references from HS Coach Dave Appleby can be provided as needed). My passion to play and compete continues and I will be competing my final senior year again with hopes to qualify and compete again at the 2023 state tournament. Fun fact, in 2021, at my first highschool match I had a hole in one ( Par 3, 117 yards) at Fairway Hills Golf Course in Howard County.
In addition to playing golf year round, I am also highly focused on academics. I am enrolled in numerous STEM AP classes and I have a 4.0 unweighted and a 4.75 weighted GPA (5.0 scale). I scored a 30 on a superscored ACT. I am also enrolled in a selective 2 year academic program called The Academy of Finance and Accounting.
I would appreciate it if I am able to speak with you regarding qualifications and opportunities to play for you on your women’s golf team. I feel that a university that expects that their athletes not only compete in sports but also in academics is important. I love playing competitive golf and having teammates who share the same mindset is extremely positive. I am both an academic and athlete player combo, and would be a perfect match as I enter my college years with goals to focus in business /finance and collegiate golf.
Thank you,
Riyana Patel
