I played golf on the boy's golf team for my freshman and sophomore years. I played as an individual my junior year. As a senior, I was instrumental in starting the first girl's golf team ever at our school. Since I was a freshman, I could hit the ball 250 yards. However, I didn't get serious about the game until a few days before my junior year. Since then, there have maybe been 8 days that I haven't had a golf club in my hands. When not in school, I practice 6-8 hours a day and when in school, I practice 4-6 hours a day. Last winter I hired Scott Wilson as my swing coach. He is the Michigan PGA Coach of the Year and has several prodigies.
My game has dramatically improved, particularly the short game. I typically shoot in the mid to high 80's right now. As a senior, I typically shot 19 strokes better in every tournament compared to my scores as a junior. I am still not satisfied with my results, but I am close. I finished 16th at the state meet. I finished 3rd in our conference and 2nd in our regional. I usually have one or two rough holes that prevent me from having the scores that I desire. I will continue to work with Scott Wilson over the winter to improve my game. We have identified my deficiencies and we will target those areas. Realistically, I expect to be shooting scores between 78-82 by mid-summer. I am excited to see what a college golf coach can do with my golf game.
I am determined to play golf in college. With my current golf resume, I understand that I have three options for next year: 1) Pick a Division II school that has my field of study and prove myself as a preferred walk-on at a school that believes in me. 2) Receive a scholarship at an NAIA school in Michigan. 3) Select a junior college in the south that takes golf seriously and that has a strong teacher of the game, which would allow me to play golf and tournament golf year-round. My coaches tell me that I am a late bloomer, but that my potential is high. I need to go to a college program that takes women's golf seriously and has a coach who can mentor me to greatness. I am much more dedicated than any other girl golfer that I know. Many say it, but I prove it day in and day out.
My academics are strong. I have taken 3 advance placement classes and I have another 4 this semester. My GPA is 3.48. I would like to major in business. I believe that I would have little difficulty transitioning to the demands of college golf, academically and athletically.
