Katherine Gorno '24 Recruiting Profile

My name is Katie Gorno from Traverse City, Michigan and I am in the graduating class of 2024. I swim with a YMCA club team as my school does not have a swim program of its own. My club team is the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA Breakers.

I have a passion for the sport and consider myself extremely hard working. I have dreamed of being a collegiate swimmer for almost as long as I can remember. This drive and love for the sport keeps me very determined.  I am the fun-loving, humorous teammate, but know when it’s time to work. I have high expectations of myself and am ready to give everything I have when I race and at practice.

I swim mostly butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle. Some of my bigger meets include: Michigan YMCA State Championships, Great Lakes Zones Swimming Championship, and the Great Lakes Swim Conference. I was going to compete at the Michigan Short Course State Championship but that was canceled due to Coronavirus. My personal times from some of my short course events include 50 Free: 26.15, 100 Free: 57.22, 100 Back: 1:04.73, and 100 Fly: 1:02.51

As a student, I am starting my second semester of sophomore year. I am attending Elk Rapids High School. I held a spot on the National Junior Honor Society in middle school and currently have a grade point average of  3.8. I’m not one hundred percent sure of my academic interest in the future but right now I am looking into the criminal justice field. I currently am taking one AP class, U.S. History, but plan on taking many more throughout my highschool career. I am also in our tenth grade honors english class.
