My name is Isabella Elgert and I intend to play Division I Golf. Although I have only been competing in golf for a couple of years, I have been around the game most of my life and always involved in athletics. Early on in my athletic career, my focus was almost entirely on basketball. I played year round basketball on a couple of select teams and was even the ball girl for the University of Nebraska Women’s team for four years. It was a great experience as it taught me a lot about time management, how to be a great teammate and what it takes physically and emotionally to be a D-I Athlete. When the pandemic hit and basketball was taken away from me as a team sport, I started to turn my attention to playing golf and I have truly fallen in love with the game. In fact, my plan now is to entirely focus on the game of golf and to just enjoy basketball as a fan.
My father is my swing coach. He was a Division I golfer, Head Coach at Drake University and Director of Instruction at Wakonda Club in Des Moines. He even coached Zach Johnson (PGA Tour Player and the 2023 US Ryder Cup Captain) and they still remain close friends. Although my father is no longer in the business of golf, he continues to coach many top juniors in our area. He has taught NCAA All-Americans and even a few tour players as well. I feel like his experience and knowledge of the game has helped me improve tremendously in a short period of time…thanks Dad!
I’m also blessed with having the best facilities to practice and improve my game. We live on Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska. It is a host-site for the Korn Ferry Q-School (first stage) and has a wonderful practice facility (indoors and outdoors), short game area and executive course as well as the championship layout. We also have a home in Pinehurst, North Carolina and we are members at Pinehurst Country Club. It is my favorite place to visit and I love playing the numerous courses in the area to challenge my game. My favorites are Pinehurst #2, #4, the Cradle and Pine Needles…host of the 2022 US Women’s Open.
As far as my area of study in college, I plan to study Business Administration at this time. I currently have a 4.148 GPA and I take academics very seriously. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and best of luck with your team!
