Juliet Schoemaker '24 Recruiting Profile

    I started golfing the summer before my freshman year during COVID-19. I fell in love with it. One of my main influences during this time was my coach Sarah Pravecek, who gave me endless lessons on the range, putting green and the course. Golf was an outlet for me during COVID-19 because of the mental challenge. It was also a way for me to spend time with my grandparents, my Grandpa John especially. I began entering tournaments through Nebraska Junior Golf during the summer of 2020. At the time, Lincoln East was an up-and-coming golf team. When I tried out, I did not make the team. I was frustrated yet motivated to play more, and the next year I made the team. I was so proud of myself, yet I felt like I was just having fun. I was an upper JV player during my sophomore year and almost made varsity. During the summer before my junior year I played in 15 tournaments and broke 90 and 80 within 5 months. I helped out with my country club’s kids camp program and junior league. I love the social aspect of golf, and I can challenge myself mentally to do what I thought I couldn’t, showing up for my team when needed. When one of my teammates was injured and couldn’t play, I stepped up to play at the Norfolk Invite. I was nervous because it was my first time playing the course and I had heard that first-timers don't usually do well. I shot an 83, and got 10th in a Varsity tournament. Later in the season, I broke 80 at Highlands golf course and helped my team win the tournament. Going into my Senior year, I am excited for my team to win our first State Championship.
