Hello, my name is Erica Lee. I am a senior at Millard North High School in Omaha, Nebraska. I have consistently played golf since I was three years old, however, I began competing my freshman year in 2019. Starting with scores in the 80s and 90s, I have drastically improved over the last three years, now consistently shooting in the low 80s and high 70s.
In many cases on the course, especially during competition, my mental distractions and thoughts are what affect my physical game. After experiencing poor mental control for a few years, I have taught myself to save my emotions until the tournaments are completely over. No matter how unlucky I get on the course with my shots, I am completely able to suppress my emotions and take each shot at a time, not thinking about my previous shots or holes.
Aside from golf, academics are my top priority. Since seventh grade, I have taken as many honors and AP classes as possible each school year. Therefore, I have been spending the majority of my time outside of golf studying. Although high grades are important to earn, I would not spend as much time studying as I do if it weren't for my determination and diligence.
I am aiming to attend a college that will undoubtedly lead me to a successful future. My decision is set on biology as a major in college and I am hoping to receive an education that will allow me to pursue my goal of attending medical school and becoming a dermatologist.
After playing with a high school team for the past few years, I have learned that working on my game as an individual has allowed me to contribute that much more to my team as well. As I am doing in high school, I will try my absolute hardest to contribute as most as I possibly can to my team in college. I am also hoping to be a part of a team and community that I am able to learn from - not only about golf, but about myself, others, and life as a whole.
