My name is Caytlin Petrova! I am part of the 2023 graduating class of La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I started playing golf the summer of 2019, before my freshman year of high school. My freshman year I qualified to play on the La Cueva Development team. By the end of the season, I was playing in tournaments as a member of the very competitive varsity team. My sophomore and junior years, I played on the varsity golf team. These two years, I qualified to play in the state tournament. For the 2021/2022 season, our varsity team won first place in six out of seven Albuquerque Public School tournaments. We also won first place in the Metro and District tournaments, and second place in the State tournament.
Since 2019, I have participated in many school and PGA Junior League tournaments. In playing the game of golf, I aspire to be a leader to other players and teammates. I am determined and I strive to be well rounded as well as a hard working student and athlete. In all sports that I have played, I have come to realize I work best in team sports where I am able to perform individually. I understand the team aspect of having fun while being able to push each other to grow and improve on and off the course. When I was new to the sport, I had a hard time with the mental aspect of the game and I let that get to me. Since then, I have grown as a player, especially mentally. I understand that every shot is a new shot, and every hole is a new hole.
I am a well rounded student athlete. Outside of this sport, I am very involved in my church and other activities. I hold a part time job and I serve on the youth leadership team, the church leadership council, and annual mission trips to states all over the country, where we serve those who are in need.
In attending college, I plan to study Marine Biology and have an opportunity to challenge my academic and athletic career, while continuing to be a valued member of the community I live in.
