In Bethlehem they have this program called Lab School that I am happily a part of, it is a smaller community within the high school. This may seem like that's all it is but it is so much more. This program has helped me become the student I am today, I have a close relationship with all my teachers and others in my class since we have all of our core classes together. I still have friends within the regular school, but lab school is like my family. Along with this, it is fewer teachers talking at us and more group work and projects. Lab school requires each student to have at least 15 community service hours each year. I have over 300 hours, and it has helped me get closer with my community, and have close ties to certain parts of my community. They also require a senior internship of 175 hours, since I am a junior currently but I do have an internship already set in place at Eagle Elementary school. They also require a research paper each semester that is self-chosen, it helps me learn about topics I'm interested in and has given me key skills that will be beneficial in college. Very few large high schools have this program and I honestly wish other larger schools had this because it is a life-changing experience.
