Hi! I’m Maya. I’m a 17 year old junior at Bethlehem Central High School. Obviously, diving is a top priority for me, but I am also interested in other things. I hope to become an immigration lawyer, and I’m very passionate about social justice. I participate in a club called Students for Peace and Survival, a political action and social justice club. We have educational projects and fundraisers for important causes. For example, every year we hold a big fundraiser called Empty Bowls, in which we create pottery and make a whole variety of soups. We sell these at a big event, and all proceeds go to a local food bank.
I love working hard at practice with my dive team, and that passion for teamwork carries over into my other activities. I realize that every diver has the power to make practice positive and productive. I take responsibility for contributing to a safe, supportive, and fun practice environment. I love encouraging the younger divers at my club and try to be a good role model for them regarding work ethic, attitude, and encouragement of others. I genuinely love being a good teammate, and I thrive and am energized by being part of something larger than myself. I believe that the mental aspects of diving, the hard work, and being part of a team, will be great preparation for life. I'm excited to take my diving to the collegiate level!
