Sophia Mochan '20 Recruiting Profile

I am a future 2020 graduate of State College Area High School in State College, Pennsylvania. 

I have been golfing for as long as I can remember, and it has always been a dream of mine to play golf competitively in college. 

As a freshman, I played for a private school that did not have a women’s golf program.  Because of my drive to play,  the school allowed me to play for their men’s team.  That experience helped me quickly learn how to be mentally strong, competitive, and unintimidated by my opponents.  The confidence that I built during that time has stayed with me.

My favorite thing about golf is that even though I am competing "alone" during actual play, I still have the camaraderie and friendly competition of a team that I can be proud of.

Golf for me is not just a sport, but a way of life that allows me to have an outlet for daily stressors while opening doorways to new experiences.  This sport has enabled me to build relationships with people that I may never have had a chance to meet without it.  It’s also given me the ability to travel,  play in beautiful places,  as well as time with my parents who love the game as much as I do! 

In college I hope to study exercise science and work with athletic teams. 

One of my goals is to show other athletes that they can grow stronger and faster both physically and mentally while supporting and uplifting those around them along the way. 

I personally gain strength by sharing my positive work ethic and energy every day with the team and staff I'm surrounded by.  I hope to bring my ever-improving competitive golf game and joyful personality to a college program that appreciates what I have to offer.
